Life is a Xmas Garden. Celebrate Christmas tree ideas
Joel Hurrey

"When we talk about Christmas we think presents and a cracking tree for them to go under. This year throw the traditional tree theme out the window and go with something beautiful, fresh and different. I have chosen the magnificent Magnolia tree, with over 100 species to choose from and some amazing colours, I am sure there is one for everyone. Don't forget the red and silver tinsel and have a wonderful Christmas."

"I love to make my own Christmas decorations by stringing Frangipani flowers onto fishing line. Get the family involved and hang the flower garlands in doorways, windows and outside on tree branches. It's the easiest way to have a happy and fragrant Christmas garden!"

"At Christmas there are so many ways to bring together the indoors and the outdoors. I love to put a potted olive tree in a rustic basket with fresh straw at the base, and then cover it with silver baubles to highlight the silvery underside of the olive tree leaves. If you can find them, dried pomegranates make another lovely addition to this festive plant. Edible additions are one of my favourite ways to adorn the family tree. Happy holidays!"

"Traditionally in Europe Christmas wreathes are made with spruce, holly and yew, but i like to make mine with Australian plants. I'd use Sheoak (a native conifer) as the base and decorate it with gum blossom, buds, banksias, waratahs, paper daisies and billy buttons. These not only last well without water, but each dry beautifully so each year the wreath can be used again, and freshened up with some more treasures from my bush garden."

"A Wollemi pine grows to the size of its pot, so this is a great plant to re-use year after year. If you re-pot it in larger containers at Christmas, it will grow with your family! To give the tree a true 'Bush Christmas' feel, decorate it with rustic items like a horse bridle. Chuck in a few Bromeliads and an eskie of cold beverages and your Christmas celebrating can begin!"
